From Canada, To Canada!

Want to see one of my all-time favorite paintings!?  I photographed my model while visiting Montreal, Canada a few years back.  She's a friend of my niece's, and they both were good sports when I asked them to either pose or move or emote, while I shot away!  This is not exactly a step-by-step (because I forgot to take pictures along the way), but it does show you the reference photo.
p.s.  It's ironic (yet fitting) that the reference photo came from Montreal, Canada, and it was a Canadian couple (from the other end of Canada) that ended up buying it at my gallery in Charleston, SC and shipping it all the way back home!

This shows the first layer of paint.  It's watercolor on Yupo.
You may see the finished painting below.

Montreal's full of character

www.helenKbeacham.com

Montreal has tons of character (and characters!...I can say that, since I came from here!)

Spent the day with my sister in Westmount, right near downtown Montreal.  Here's a sampling of all the beautiful architecture in this part of town.

Two separate homes.

Montreal this week!

I'm in Montreal visiting my sister and her family.  I was born up here, but I don't get up very often anymore.  Anytime I think about coming up, my sister seems to have plans to come down to Charleston instead.  Who can blame her!?  Anyway, I'm here today and we plan to fill our week with fun things to do.  Always carrying my camera so you never know what will end up on my blog (or what I will paint in the future)!  p.s. The weather is about 72 degrees!

Montreal, approaching from the U.S. side.  That's the St. Lawrence River, and that front green area has been "built" for recreational boaters to use (it's a long stretch, left and right, not all visible in this photo).

Art Impressions

I'm often moved or impressed by another artist's creation and want to share it with you in this new blog category (Art Impressions).

I stumbled upon Heather Benning's installation today.  Heather lives in rural Saskatchewan, Canada and what I came across was "The Dollhouse", which she completed in 2007.  She says the original Manitoba farmhouse was abandoned in 1968 and she subsequently found it in 2005. She set out to restore the house's interior so that it took us back to the time of its abandonment. But what's unique about this project is that she chose to remove the north wall of the house and replace it with Plexiglas!

Having just recently painted a (miniature!) dollhouse for my own granddaughter, I was intrigued by Heather's project so much, that it made it to my blog's "Art Impressions" category! Heather's website shows the project in progress.
