What's Going on BEHIND the Painting?

Not sure I've shown you this particular painting but I thought you'd like to see what I painted onto the BACK of my translucent Yupo.  (You DO KNOW that I paint onto the back, don't you??)

I paint sort of random marks on the back.
Then I flip it over and paint on the front.
Then I might flip it back and forth some more till I'm happy with the outcome.

I paint on both sides! Do you?

Do any of you love Yupo as much as I do!?

I use translucent Yupo (usually 104 lb. weight).  I paint on the back as well as on the front.

Here's my reference photo for "Lowcountry Sunshine".  This scene is from Palmetto Islands County Park (although around here it's just called Palmetto County Park).

My reference photo.

And here's a picture of what I painted on the back.....

It's reversed, of course.

Here's the completed painting.

Can you tell that some of the paint I put on the back is showing through to the front?

I'm wondering if you've ever tried this at home!?  Why not post your Yupo paintings into the comments on my blog...remember to give us a link to your website if you have one to share with us.  I look forward to seeing them!

And my favorite is..........?

It's a good time to take stock of what I loved about my 2014 paintings.

Even though I always feel like I'm not painting enough (don't we all?), I painted 28 pieces in 2014 (many of which were large formats).  Wow!  That's a lot, considering it takes me hours and hours to finish them.

And which were my favorites?  (Honestly, my "favorite" is usually the one I'm working on at the moment.)

Hard to choose amongst my various babies, so I broke it down by the different substrates I like to use.  In no particular order, here they are:

Substrate:  Translucent Yupo
"Spring" by Helen K. Beacham
Available through the artist.

Substrate:  Watercolor Canvas
"Morning on the Piazza" (30x40) by Helen K. Beacham Fine Art
Available through the Mary Martin Gallery of Fine Art.

Substrate:  300# Arches rough, cold-pressed paper
"Rosso Veneziano" by Helen K. Beacham Fine Art
In a private collection.

If I didn't happen to mention one of my paintings that YOU added to YOUR personal collection, don't fret.  I truly love everything I create...what I offer you is always a glimpse into my soul.  Happy 2015!

Come paint with me!
In 2015, we're going to Venice, Niagara Falls, Montreal and so on!!!

Every afternoon, when the sun is just right, we'll explore the outdoors, taking lots of good research photos for our paintings.  During the day, we'll paint indoors where we can take advantage of all that the translucent Yupo has to offer.  Want to learn how I paint on both sides of the Yupo?  You won't believe the stunning glow you can achieve by using this technique!
